Project Description

Prosthetic Limbs for Persons with Disabilities
Rotary Club of Gongabu, in collaboration with Rotary Club of Birgunj and supported by the Rotary President’s Action Group 2025-26, will provide prosthetic limbs to 17 physically disabled individuals in Dhunibesi Municipality and Thakre Rural Municipality, Dhading District.

The need was identified during eye camps and household visits conducted with RCC Jeevanpur and RCC Kewalpur. We found 17 individuals, mostly elderly from low-income families, who lost limbs due to accidents, diabetes, and lack of early medical care. Dhading has few orthopedic or rehabilitation facilities, and high transport costs prevent residents from accessing services in Kathmandu.

This project will organize a screening and fitting camp. Orthopedic professionals will assess beneficiaries and custom-fit durable prosthetic limbs. Rotary Club of Birgunj will provide technical expertise for fitting and rehabilitation training. Beneficiaries and caregivers will receive basic guidance on limb use, care, and mobility. RCC Jeevanpur and RCC Kewalpur will handle local coordination and conduct follow-up visits at 1 month and 3 months post-fitting.

The expected outcome is restored mobility and independence for 17 individuals, reduced burden on families, and increased community awareness about disability support. Local RCCs will be trained for basic follow-up, ensuring sustainability.

This initiative reflects Rotary’s motto “Service Above Self” by delivering direct, life-changing support to underserved communities and strengthening Rotary’s impact in rural Nepal.
